Giving alms in the name of my grandpa

In christian orthodox tradition,we try to help our beloved family members who passed away by giving food to the poor and nominating their names in church prayers. So all the church is praying that their soul will enter heaven and their sins will be forgiven.

 This is all we can do for them,the rest depends on God's will .
 Special liturgy are made for the dead and all the people in the church along with the priests try to offer this help so that God,in His infinite mercy may consider our prayers and palliate their final judgement.

We make food for 10 to 30,40 persons-depending of everyone's financial possibilities.

We also prepare a special food,called Koliva (in Greece ,Bulgary,Serbia,Moldova,Romania,Lebanon,etc) made by wheat that symbolizes the death and ressurrection in Jesus Christ.Wheat which is planted in the earth and rises in new life.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. John 12:24
اَلْحَقَّ الْحَقَّ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ: إِنْ لَمْ تَقَعْ حَبَّةُ الْحِنْطَةِ فِي الأَرْضِ وَتَمُتْ فَهِيَ تَبْقَى وَحْدَهَا. وَلكِنْ إِنْ مَاتَتْ تَأْتِي بِثَمَرٍ كَثِيرٍ.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.... 1 Corinthians 15:42-44).
هكَذَا أَيْضًا قِيَامَةُ الأَمْوَاتِ: يُزْرَعُ فِي فَسَادٍ وَيُقَامُ فِي عَدَمِ فَسَادٍ.
 يُزْرَعُ فِي هَوَانٍ وَيُقَامُ فِي مَجْدٍ. يُزْرَعُ فِي ضَعْفٍ وَيُقَامُ فِي قُوَّةٍ.
يُزْرَعُ جِسْمًا حَيَوَانِيًّا وَيُقَامُ جِسْمًا رُوحَانِيًّا. يُوجَدُ جِسْمٌ حَيَوَانِيٌّ وَيُوجَدُ جِسْمٌ رُوحَانِيٌّ.


 Our deads are never forgotten ! We do everything we can here,on Earth to reach their spirit and maybe them,from heaven are praying for us too.
