Fashion 2011 Year in Review

The fashions of 2011 varied from the bizarre to surprisingly conservative. The jumpsuit was all the rage during the spring and summer months. This full-bodied fashion trend was seen across red carpets and premieres around the world. The jumpsuit usually came in vibrant colors and was worn as a formal dress or coverall for high fashion occasions. A belt was added to give the waist a slimming look. Following the colors of the jumpsuit were bright trousers. Bright trouser were all the rage during the summer months. These pants came in bright pinks, oranges, blues and greens.
The skirt and shirt was another trend found in the spring of 2011. This sophisticated and conservative look took many fashionistas by surprise. Pairing a solid colored skirt with a flowered blouse was a great look for mothers, career women and celebrities alike. Plaits were the hair fashion for 2011’s summer. Plaiting was seen by celebrities like Diane Kruger and adds an amount of glamour with a little bit of mess. This gave women a great way to beat the summer heat while staying fashionable.
The spring was also the age of the shorts suit. The shorts suit consisted of a suit jacket, blouse and shorts. Although this look has been around since 2009, it came full-tilt this spring. The 70s made a comeback this summer with the implementation of throwbacks like flared jeans and flowing blouses. Celebrities like Claudia Schiffer and Zoe Saldana were seen with flares this year bringing to the forefront of fashion.
In the fall, everything was about bright colors. Designers like Michael Kors, Paul & Joe and Thakoon debuted bright yellows, oranges and blues for their fall lines. Longer length skirts were also big this year. Anything below the knees was frowned upon. Designers like Dries Van Noten, Carolina Herrera, and Chloe brought the longer skirt back with interesting patterns and solid colors. Formal wear for the 2011 winter were plastered with patterns. These fashions were primarily made up of flowers. Lilies, tulips and pine needles were some of the biggest smashes with Miu Mlu, Jonathan Saunders and Hermes. Pleats, rosettes and frills were also big during the winter of 2011.
